Diamond Dance Complex
Hip Hop Dance Classes in Pembroke Pines
Hip Hop at Diamond Dance Complex brings together high-energy movement, musicality, personal style, and performance. Dancers learn how to move with purpose, bring personality to combinations, and build confidence in an encouraging environment.
We're located at 1810 NW 122nd Terrace in Pembroke Pines, inside Pill Box Plaza, with free parking at the door. Hip hop classes are also a short drive for families in Miramar (7–10 minutes), Cooper City (5–10), and Davie (10–15).
When Hip Hop Classes Meet
Hip hop runs Thursday evenings in Room 2, split by level:
- 5:30–6:30 PM — Ruby, Sapphire & Diamond White (ages 12–18)
- 6:30–7:30 PM — Aquamarine & Quartz (ages 8–11)
Each class runs a full hour. View the complete class schedule to see how hip hop fits alongside other classes your dancer might take the same evening.
What a Hip Hop Class Looks Like
Every class follows a similar structure so dancers know what to expect.
We start with a warm-up cardio, stretching, and isolations to get the body moving safely. Then across-the-floor work and grooves, where dancers drill the foundational movements that everything else builds on. The middle of class is choreography, learning and cleaning a combination over several weeks rather than rushing through new routines each session. We finish with freestyle or performance, where dancers take turns bringing their own personality to the movement.
That last part matters more than people expect. Hip hop is one of the few styles where a dancer's individual voice is part of the technique, not separate from it.
What Dancers Build
- Rhythm, grooves, footwork, and coordination
- Isolations, body control, and musicality
- Freestyle confidence and age-appropriate fundamentals
- Choreography retention and stage presence
- Strength, stamina, and body awareness
Who This Class Is For
Classes are available for kids and teens, including beginner, recreational, and competitive dancers. Hip Hop can be a fun first dance experience or a focused way to strengthen performance skills for competitions, auditions, and school dance teams.
It's a particularly good entry point for dancers who feel unsure about more formal styles. There's no barre, no French terminology, and no expectation of prior training. Many of our dancers start in hip hop and add jazz or contemporary once they're comfortable in the studio.
Hip Hop also complements jazz, contemporary, Improv, and Dance Tech by helping dancers develop a distinctly different movement quality.
Is Hip Hop Appropriate for Kids?
Yes. Every class is age-appropriate. Our instructors select music and choreography suited to each age group, and classes are grouped by level so a 9-year-old isn't learning alongside a 17-year-old. Parents can watch any class live on the TVs in our parent lounge.
How Levels Work
Dancers are placed by ability and experience rather than age alone. Hip hop uses the same gemstone levels as the rest of our program:
- Aquamarine (AQM) — 8–11, novice
- Quartz (QTZ) — 8–11, intermediate
- Ruby (RBY) — 12–18, novice
- Sapphire (SA) — 12–18, intermediate
- Diamond White (DW) — 12–18, advanced
Not sure where your dancer fits? Contact us and we'll help place them. Dancers as young as 3 can start in our Saturday Little Gems program and move into hip hop when they're ready.
